Associate Pastor Ben Morris

Associate Pastor for Youth, Culture & Mission -
Rev. Benjamin Morris

Ben joined our staff in September 2011. Born in 1981, he was raised in southeast Michigan, graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in History (2005) and from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa with a Master of Divinity (2010).  For one year between college and seminary he served as the Youth Director at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Trenton, Michigan.  He served as Pastor of Good Samaritan in Pontiac from August 2010 to May 2011.

His coursework at Wartburg included a concentration (15 credit hours) in Youth, Culture and Mission.  As described by the school, “This concentration serves as an academic preparation for service in the church in youth and family ministry” framing these ministries, “within the larger context of the cultures of youth and the mission of the Christian gospel”.   In addition to youth, culture and mission, Ben’s areas of strength and experience include multicultural ministry, small group ministry, evangelism and mission, innovation, creativity and teaching.  He also has a “passion for preaching”.

Ben studied for one year in Nuendettelsau, Germany and interned at Hope Lutheran, St. John’s Episcopal Mission church located on the Leech Lake Ojibwe (Minnesota Chippewa) reservation.

Pr. Ben is now working with our youth and Confirmation Classes, and preaches every other Sunday. In Pr. Ben's words "As I look forward into our future, I am so excited I can hardly stand it. We are poised to head into our community and world in so many different ways. One place that will be a challenge is the 'missing generation'; our church, along with all churches, struggles to engage those ages 18-35. This is also the stage in life when people are seeking community and meaning with the most urgency. I feel God is calling Holy Cross into a deep journey with this group of young people. In the next year we will see many great things unfold as we journey together in ministry."

In Loving Memory of

Debbie Frank
September 3, 2111

“Rest eternal– grant her, O Lord, and let
light perpetual shine upon her.”

"We miss you.  You are at home and in peace
with our Lord.”

a tribute to our Handbell Choir Director - Debbie Frank

Debbie has been our handbell choir director since 1993. Deb took over the handbell program at Holy Cross and arranged for the handbell music and led practices though out the church year. She worked for Holy Cross part time. Debbie was very enthusiastic and serious about handbells and music. Deb was also an accomplished solo handbell ringer and also rang with the Detroit Handbell Ensemble.

The five octaves of English Handbells and the hand chimes were purchased with Memorial Funds for the enjoyment of all church members and ringers. Under Deb's direction, some of our ringers have performed in quartets, duets and even solos, ringing at several weddings and private performances. Some have attended the handbell conferences of AGEHR, The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, where they attended workshops, learned more techniques and participated in mass ringing with hundreds of other ringers.

Deb has been a member of Holy Cross since 1989. She had a Master's in Social Work from Wayne State University in MI with studies in vocal music. Through the years at Holy Cross, she has also led youth bell and chime choirs. She resided in Livonia, MI. Deb was a licensed social worker.  She retired from state employment in 2002 and later retired from Courtyard Manor in Wixom where she worked as a consulting psychiatric social worker.  Since her recent retirement, she has been enjoying directing the bell choir and assisting with the "Hearts, Hands and Voices" program at Holy Cross. In her spare time, Debbie enjoyed her house full of pets, boating, fishing and gardening.
